Armenian-Americans and Hungarian-Americans in Los Angeles
Armenian immigrants started coming to the United States as early as the 19th century, increasing during the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1932. The most significant population waves began in the 1960s. While they are now more highly concentrated in northeast metropolitan areas such as New York City, the second largest community of Armenian immigrants in America is the Greater Los Angeles Area. There are over 166,000 Armenian-Americans in the Greater Los Angeles Area, mainly in Glendale and in "Little Armenia" near Downtown Los Angeles.
There have been many different waves of immigration for Hungarians to the United States starting as early as 1840. During the communist revolution in Hungary, many Hungarians immigrated to areas in the American Midwest such as Ohio and Michigan. Now, there are approximately 134,000 Hungarian-Americans in California and over 16,800 in Los Angeles. While they don't have one definite community in Los Angeles, many Hungarians live in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood.
